Water leak detection at home usually starts with the same confusing moment: your water bill jumped, or you’re noticing water where it shouldn’t be, and you have no idea if it’s your pool, your spa, or your household plumbing.
Start With Your Water Meter
Turn off every faucet and appliance in the house, and check your water meter. If it’s still moving, you have an active leak somewhere in your home’s plumbing system — pool or not. If the meter is still and your pool is still losing water, the leak is almost certainly in the pool or its equipment.
Pool and Spa Leaks Have Their Own Signs
Water loss that continues with the pump off, wet spots specifically near the equipment pad or pool shell, and a pool that needs topping off more than a quarter inch a day are all signs pointing toward the pool or spa rather than household plumbing.
Household Plumbing Leaks Look Different
Warped flooring, unexplained mold or mildew smell, warm spots on the floor (from a hot water line), or a water heater that runs more than usual all point toward household plumbing rather than the pool.
Why the Distinction Matters
Pool leak detection and household plumbing leak detection use different equipment and different techniques. Calling the right specialist first saves you time and often money — a plumber isn’t necessarily equipped to pressure test pool return lines, and a pool leak detection company isn’t going to trace a slab leak under your kitchen.
If It’s the Pool, We Can Help
Once you’ve ruled in the pool or spa as the source, we use static pressure testing, dye testing, and acoustic equipment to find exactly where the water is going — no guessing, no unnecessary excavation.
